From Empty Shelves to Overflowing Hope: Nasieku’s Story

Nasieku lives in the Oloporrolii community. She is a mother of ten, carrying the weight of providing for her family every day.
For a long time, just putting food on the table was a struggle.
She ran a small shop, but it barely had anything in it. A little maize flour, maybe some sugar—but not enough to truly sustain a business, and not enough to meet the needs of her family. The shelves were often close to empty, reflecting the uncertainty she lived with daily.
Still, she kept going.
Even in the middle of her own need, Nasieku would give to neighbors who were struggling too. That quiet generosity is something often seen in her community—people sharing what little they have.
But the reality was hard. Each day brought questions like, How will I feed my children? How will I ever afford school fees?
Then things began to change.
Through the Family Partners program, Nasieku received Direct Give, which enabled her to expand her shop. What once was only enough to survive slowly began to grow. Her shelves started to fill—more items, more customers, more opportunities.
And with that… hope.

Today, her shop is full—not just with food, but with possibility. She is now able to provide for her family and pay for her children’s education, something that once felt out of reach.
But the change hasn’t just been physical.
There has been a shift in her heart as well. Where her prayers once centered on daily survival, they now reflect hope for the future—prayers for her children, for wisdom, and for her community. Her voice has grown stronger, encouraging others who are walking a similar path.
Nasieku shares, “I used to open my shop and see emptiness. I saw hunger, fear, and despair. Now I see God’s blessings filling every corner. These blessings are not just for me—they are for my children, for their education, and for the future of our community.”
This story is about more than one shop.
It’s about a family.
It’s about a future.
It’s about what can happen when someone is given an opportunity—and has others walking alongside them.
